Hey Class of 2014,
First of all, congratulations! With your acceptance, you have guaranteed yourselves at least one year of terrible law puns (such as the title of this post).
Today UBC Law is celebrating the convocation of the Class of 2011. Just think: three short years ago they were in your shoes, and today, they graduate. Even though the Faculty is busy preparing to celebrate their convocation, we are just as busy getting ready for your arrival.
And as excited as we are to be planning a fun and informative O-Week, I'm sure you are all just dying to get your hands on any information you can. As your Orientation Coordinator, I will do my best to keep you filled in and up to date. If you are anything like me last year, you'll have been wondering what you can do to prepare yourself for school: the truth is that the best thing you can do is to relax, rest, and enjoy your summer! (I didn't believe that advice when I got it last summer, but it's true.)
For those of you who want to know as much as possible before school starts, I'll be updating you all in several ways:
- Emails: The Admissions Office will send out emails with any important information,
- O-Week Guide: The O-Week Guide will contain lots of helpful information. It's a little bit bare right now, but the links will be updated throughout the summer.
- O-Week Blog: I'll be updating this blog throughout the summer to keep you all updated with information about O-Week, what to expect in your first year, the faculty of law, and Vancouver (for all you out-of-town students). There will also be guest posts from important members of the law school, such as the Law Students' Society (LSS) President.
- Facebook: If you haven't already, join the UBC Law 2014 page and get connected with your future classmates! There will also be an Orientation page posted soon.
- Twitter: I'll be tweeting updates from our official Orientation twitter feed!
In the meantime, if you have any questions, comments, concerns, or ideas, feel free to facebook, tweet, or email them to orientation@law.ubc.ca.
—Samantha
